The TVS TechLearn programme introduces children to computers as a learning tool using IT technology to build on the knowledge and skills previously taught and to support children’s learning in English Language and Maths. Training for local teachers is an integral part of the programme.
Since 2023 TechLearn has been delivered through our FreshStart programme in selected schools. All FreshStart schools are provided with a laptop, projector, and interactive whiteboard to replace old style blackboards and Chalk and Talk teaching methodology. These are used to support lessons for Grades 3, 4 5 children following the national CAPS curriculum in English and Maths and extended to include content appropriate for Grades 6 and 7, including applying IT programs to solve maths problems, for example, using and applying excel.
The TechLearn progamme reflects the aim of TVS to support and develop the teaching skills of our colleagues- emphasising effective lesson planning that includes the use of technology and an interactive, child centered approach. Follow on training enables our teachers to develop their own “TVS” style of teaching, modelled on the TechLearn programme
Maths TechLearn
Maths TechLearn is the continuation programme from Starting Maths, building upon the knowledge and skills previously taught. It is extended to include concepts appropriate for Grade 6 and 7, including applying IT programs to solve maths problems. For example; using and applying excel.
