The beginning of the first, academic term and new year of 2024 marked a significant milestone for Tyume Valley Schools as our dedicated team of Learning Assistants eagerly stepped into their roles to support Grade 4 teachers across four primary schools. Equipped with projectors, whiteboards, laptops, and essential resources, TVS ensured that each LSA was primed for success in making an impact on education in the Tyume Valley.
The term was slow to start and suffered many disruptions due to the inter-house and inter-schools’ athletics activities. Stifling, high, summer temperatures further plagued our school days. Despite this, LSAs settled into their respective schools. Timetables were established and assessments conducted.
Term 2 got off to a good start as the LSAs were well prepared with lesson plans, resources and training. There were fewer disruptions during term time, allowing for more power point lessons and reading time.
The main area of focus in all 4 Primary schools for Maths was Addition of up to 4-digit numbers and subtraction, multiplication tables and division. In English all four schools focused largely on sentence construction and the parts of speech. All schools incorporated more Reading time working mostly with individual children and whole class.
A Team Building and Fresh Start orientation session was held at Hobbiton-on-Hogsback on the 16th February 2024, for teachers, LSAs and school Principals.
