Measuring Impact, Shaping Futures
TVS sets clear goals for teaching standards to allow for continuous improvement. Monitoring the local work is a means to measure value and sustainability.
Ongoing learning is vital to long-term success for everyone involved. Strong efforts are in hand to assess the difference between our work regarding the children’s progress and recognized educational benchmarks.
Creating Pathways to Learning and Opportunity
Our programmes address the unique challenges faced by rural learners from early literacy to digital learning and teacher training. Each initiative builds long-term capacity, community pride, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
Working in the Community - Reading Clubs
Five village reading clubs, led by community members, provide structured educational activities. One such club, the Gwali Reading Club, has grown from 15 to over 40 children per session, fostering enthusiasm for reading at home.
Parents report increased engagement, and teachers note significant literacy improvements among regular attendees.
“We are changing lives here, one child at a time. This is not just about reading—it’s about giving children the tools they need to succeed in life.” – Nthuthu Lutshete
Zaneli, TVS Learning Assistant
Zaneli, a 24-year-old from Tyume Valley, joined TVS as a learning assistant in 2022. With limited prior experience, she underwent intensive training and has developed into a confident educator, supporting over 50 students. Teachers have recognised her ability to engage struggling learners, and she now plans to pursue formal teacher training in 2025.
“The children really enjoy learning to read. One young boy was very shy before the programme; we couldn’t get him to speak, but afterwards he blossomed!” – Zaneli
80 children on a special journey to earn their very own take-home books
Our Reading Club has benefited a lot from an association with the well-known, national social impact publisher, Bookdash. TVS has worked with Bookdash since 2024 as a growing partnership. It proves a real success to allow children, aged 7-12, more access to books than ever before.
